Why Ethiopia?

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death in Ethiopia, responsible for nearly 30% of non-communicable disease-related deaths and contributing to the country’s rising burden of premature mortality—yet access to care is critically limited. There are fewer than 25 practicing cardiologists and less than five fully equipped cardiac surgery centers for a population of over 120 million. Most patients face long wait times and high costs as there are fewer than one cardiologist per million people and only a handful of surgical centers. Many lives are lost to conditions that are preventable or treatable – they are families, friends, and futures cut short simply because of where they were born. We believe every heart deserves a chance, and every life is worth saving.

Our Mission

Heart Attack Ethiopia’s mission is to provide essential cardiovascular services to underserved communities, beginning with biannual medical missions. Through a combination of medical and surgical interventions, professional training, and education focused on disease prevention, we aim to reduce cardiovascular health disparities and prevent premature death. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to a healthier, more productive, and successful Ethiopia – because we believe that where one is born shouldn’t determine the quality of their life.

Please consider making a one-time donation – every dollar raised can help give someone in Ethiopia a second chance at life – your kindness can be the gift that brings hope and healing.

For just $5 a month, you can help us fund mission trips to Ethiopia and cover the essential expenses needed to perform life-saving surgeries. The more we raise, the more lives we can save.

We kindly request medical facilities to contribute essential supplies for our mission trips to Ethiopia, where our team provides vital cardiac care. Your generous donations enable us to perform additional surgeries and extend our reach to more patients in need.
